Objectives of the AquaHealth project
AquaHealth addresses several technical and socioeconomic sub-objectives:
- to sample, cultivate and taxonomically characterize microalgae and their associated microbiomes for further exploitation
- to select promising microalgae microbes/microbiomes for functional screening activities and generate a set of (verified) bioactive compound candidates
- to build the link towards commercial applications of bioactive molecules derived from microalgae microbiomes by scaling up of cultivation and suitable downstream processing,
- evaluate and assess the feasibility, applicability, and potential of the new solutions for health management in aquaculture from a technical perspective and beyond
- anticipate potential impacts arising from the broader implementation of the technology
- involve and interact with relevant stakeholder groups and the wider public towards a new vision for sustainable aquaculture
